The report is written in collaboration with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen) and is a preliminary project that describes the New limited-access road on E6 in Oppdal municipality between Engan and Granmo to the H1 road standard. The dissertation consists of two parts including this report and a booklet. The report illustrates the theories and working process that has gone in to the preliminary project. The booklet contains drawings and reports with specific and technical data affiliated with the report. The drawings are represented are B-, C-, F- and L-drawings which all have been made in Novapoint 21.10 and AutoCAD 2019 according to NPRA standards. The report considers the existing situation of the road on E6 in Oppdal municipality between Engan and Granmo with focus on traffic safety and capacity calculations. In addition, the report drafted three alternatives for a better solution. The aim is to make a limited-access road on E6 with better traffic safety, higher speedlimits and an improved driving pattern. Before developing suggestions for a new road, it is necessary to acquire knowledge about existing conditions. It turns out the existing situation consists of big height differences and demanding curvature. The speedlimits vary from 60 km/h to 80 km/h and there are several exit roads that lead to private areas and farm houses. The existing road is close to the railway all the way from Engan to Granmo. It also has a river called Driva running by on the left side from north to south. The river sometimes leads to floods and is an important element to look out for when making a new road. The area contains big amounts of agriculture and open fields. Besides, there are a school and kindergarten located in the middle. The village is too small to contain many people and the existing road is mostly used by people travelling or tourists looking for a place to spend the night. Based on existing conditions we have come up with three alternatives for a new solution. Alternative 0 focuses on simple and safe solution, while alternative 1 and 2 create a new route. Alternative 1 is regarded as the best solution with bridge, cross, and tunnel based on impact assessment and competence among authors and supervisors. The tunnel is 780 meters long and is replacing demanding curvature out in the open. To avoid an intersection with a county road, there will be made a bridge solution. Further on the paththe alternative moves on the outside of the village, next to the river, and ends up in an intersection with the existing road. The dissertation provides a 6 km long limited-access road with H1-standard, a speed limit on 80 km/h, better traffic security and increased accessibility to Oppdal. It is considered a good solution based on the demands that were given.
